Forward Planning in March

March is the time to be thinking about displays, activities and orders for the end of May and June with half term, Jubilee celebrations and Father's Day all affecting the shape of your sales.

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee will be celebrated with an extended Bank Holiday on the 2nd and 3rd June so start thinking about your bunting, street party items and Union Jack purchases. Also decide your operating hours and staffing needs as this is such a one-off event. There is already talk of the scale of hospitality in particular over this weekend and if previous Jubilees are anything to go by, then you should have a bumper weekend.

In June, we celebrate National BBQ week as well as National Picnic Week and whilst those two events do not in themselves drive specific sales uplifts, they will be in the media and therefore BBQ's and picnics will be front of mind. Whilst we cannot predict the weather, there is no doubt that any ray of sunshine will result in everybody flocking to the nearest green space armed with at least a mini picnic of beers, dips, crisps etc. or cracking open a bottle of something pink, sparkling or just cold!

Don’t forget about Dad’s either with Father’s Day falling on 19th June this year. Dad’s never seem to generate as much enthusiasm as Mum’s for Mother’s Day with Father’s Day being one of the smaller events but it is still an opportunity to encourage additional purchases. It is normally celebrated with a card and a BBQ at home with a bottle or can of something.
